OUR HISTORY
Il Wine Hotel San Carlo affonda le sue radici nella tradizione della Valtellina, nato nel 1843
come locanda e relais, punto di sosta per i viaggiatori e stazione di posta dove i cavalli potevano riposare nel nostro ampio stallazzo. La sua posizione strategica, tra Sondrio e Tirano proprio al centro della Valtellina, ha sempre rappresentato un punto di riferimento fondamentale per la regione.
Nel corso dei secoli, la storia del nostro hotel si intreccia con gli eventi più significativi del territorio, tra cui la sua occupazione durante la guerra, che ne segnò brevemente l’uso come alloggio.
After the war, the hotel continued to operate as an inn and relais, welcoming guests until the 1980s, when, due to difficulties in keeping up with the times and internal divisions among relatives, the establishment had to close.
Over the past ten years, Carlo and Giovanna, continuing the family tradition, have taken over the restaurant and focused on reopening the hotel. For this reason, in 2021, a complete renovation began, which included the replacement of the roof and floors of the three floors, transforming the building into a modern structure with an A2 earthquake-proof and A4 energy rating, an extraordinary achievement for a building dating back to the early 1800s.
Un restyling che ha incluso anche una piscina sul tetto, offrendo così un angolo di benessere e relax con vista sulla Valtellina.
Today, the same family that has run the property for generations has transformed our hotel into a haven dedicated to relaxation and well-being, for a regenerating or romantic getaway, keeping alive the bond with tradition and offering our guests a unique experience of peace, tranquility, and regeneration, where history and modernity meet to offer an unforgettable stay.
