The Wine Hotel San Carlo has its roots in the tradition of Valtellina, founded in 1843 as a inn and relais, a stopping point for travelers and a post station where horses could rest in our spacious stable. Its strategic location, between Sondrio and Tirano right in the heart of Valtellina, has always been a fundamental reference point for the region.

Over the centuries, the history of our hotel has intertwined with the most significant events of the territory, including its occupation during the war, which briefly turned it into lodging.

After the war, the hotel continued to operate as an inn and relais, welcoming guests until the 1980s, when, due to difficulties keeping up with the times and internal divisions among relatives, the property had to close.

In the last ten years, Carlo and Giovanna, continuing the family tradition, took over the restaurant and focused on the reopening of the hotel. In 2021, a complete renovation began, including the rebuilding of the roof and floors of all three levels, transforming the building into a modern structure with an A2 seismic class and A4 energy class, an extraordinary achievement for a building dating back to the early 1800s.

The renovation also included a rooftop pool, offering a wellness and relaxation corner with a view of Valtellina.

Today, the same family that has managed the property for generations has transformed our hotel into a retreat dedicated to relaxation and well-being, for a rejuvenating or romantic getaway, preserving the bond with tradition and offering our guests a unique experience of peace, tranquility, and regeneration, where history and modernity meet to provide an unforgettable stay.
